The name of a Japanese anime from the 80s that depicted Formula 1 Race cars that would combine to make a robot?

Probably shown during the late 70s early 80s on TTV where a group of race car drivers in different colored vehicles (or Formula 1 race cars) would battle threats by combining into one giant robot. there use to be toys available for this series. Not sure if the name is right…but I think it was called Combination Go?
